The First Stage Of M9 Atakoy - Ikitelli Metro Will Be Commissioned In 2021
Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem Imamoglu attended the TBM Excavation Completion Ceremony of M9 Atakoy - Ikitelli Metro Line. Giving the information that % 61 of the construction is completed, Mayor Imamoglu gave the good news that they will commission the first stage of the line in the first quarter of 2021.
Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem Imamoglu attended the "TBM Excavation Completion Ceremony" of M9 Atakoy-Ikitelli Metro Line which will be integrated with 4 different metro and BRT (Metrobus) lines operating in the city when it is completed. Mayor of Kucukcekmece Municipality Kemal Cebi, Mayor of Bakirkoy Municipality Bulent Kerimoglu, Head of Rail Systems Department Pelin Alpkokin and Metro Istanbul General Manager Ozgur Soy accompanied Mayor Imamoglu in the ceremony, which is held at the construction site in Halkali.
“We made 8 lines operational…”
Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu emphasised that since the day they took the office, they have focused on restarting the metro lines stopped by the previous administration. Reminding that they have made 8 lines operational so far, Mayor Imamoglu shared financial and technical information on the relevant sites. Stating that he is excited about every metro work, Mayor Imamoglu said, “Because the most valuable asset of a modern city about transportation is the metro. Besides, it is necessary for a city that has a population of 16 million people. This is why we put so much effort”.
Mayor Imamoglu stated that the construction works of the relevant line was halted in March 2019 due to ground problems in some regions, technical problems have been solved and that the construction works have been accelerated since July and then he shared the following information:
“Journey time in between Ikitelli and Atakoy is going to go down to 23 minutes…”
“A total of 4 Tunnel Boring Machines worked in the line. Two TBM passing under dense settlements, the main line tunnel excavation between CobanCeşme-Kuyumcukent Stations and Halkali Street Station have also been completed. Mayor Imamoglu added that %61 of the construction of the relevant line which is 13.5 km long and has 11 stations line has been completed as of today. We want to make partial openings so that the people of Istanbul can use the metro at certain points as soon as possible. When electromechanical works are done on this line, we aim to open the line between Ikitelli Industrial Station and Bahariye Station in the first quarter of 2021. In the first quarter of 2022, the entire project will be commissioned and will be connected with Marmaray along with 4 different rail systems currently operating in Ikitelli region. When the entire metro is operational, it will carry 72 thousand passengers in two directions per hour. The line is passes through Bakirkoy, Bahcelievler, Kucukcekmece, Bagcilar, Basaksehir districts and it will bring journey time down to 23 minutes in between Ikitelli and Atakoy. With all these investments, we will increase the share of the rail system in public transportation from 20.5 percent up to 30 percent in the first place. This is very valuable for Istanbul. ”
"There is a tender but there is no project!"
Underlining that they detected very serious financing and technical problems in rail systems when they took the office, Mayor Imamoglu said, “When our demands for foreign loans for our subways yielded positive results, we speed up the works as much as possible. Our efforts in rail systems are not limited with these 8 lines. We have other rail system needs for the future of Istanbul. For example, Beylikduzu and Esenyurt are much neglected. We put great importance to this issue. Nearly 2.5 million people in that region do not currently have metro connections and 1 in 6 of the population in Istanbul lives in this region but, unfortunately, not a step is been taken by rail systems for this issue. Incirli-Beylikduzu Metro project has been on the shelves for years. The part I witnessed is 17 years. Similarly, we have a line from Mahmutbey to Esenyurt, which concerns the west of Istanbul and we are working to connect it to Beylikduzu metro. It was also tendered; but unfortunately, there is no project. It is not understandable, now we are working on it. Our efforts are continuing to put all these lines into operation in the fastest possible way with the most accurate financing model. Unfortunately, it takes 3 to 4 years to commission. Tunnels and underground stations need this much time. ”
After the speech of Mayor Imamoglu thanked every person, institution and organization who contributed to the construction of the relevant line, S1028 and S1029 numbered TBMs performed the final drilling operations.
Wide integration network...
It is being built as one of the north-south connection lines of the European Side. The line will serve the Financial Centre which is planned to be built in Basin Ekspres region will also contribute to reduce the traffic density in this region.
The relevant line will be integrated to M3 Kirazli-Basaksehir Metro Line at Ikitelli Industrial Station, M7 Kabatas-Esenyurt Metro Line at Mehmet Akif Station, M2 Yenikapi-Sefakoy Metro Line at Cobancesme Station, M1B Yenikapi-Halkali Metro Line at Mimar Sinan Station and M1A Yenikapi-Ataturk Airport Metro Line at Yenibosna Station along with Marmaray at Atakoy Station when 11 stations under construction are completed.
