Our Expectations from Our Passengers

Aiming to provide public transportation services at the quality and standards specified in the Passenger Rights Charter, Metro Istanbul expects passengers using urban rail systems to consider the following warnings in order to achieve this goal.

  •      All passengers are subject to a fee, except for children under 6 years of age and passengers whose free pass is determined by the relevant law. Passengers should use electronic tickets or cards during their travels, and show their travel cards to the staff when necessary.
  • It should be kept in mind that in the case of personal cards (blue card, discount, free, student, etc.) used by third parties, the officials have the authority to confiscate the card.
  •      Care should be taken to keep stations and vehicles clean.
  •      In accordance with the 4207 Numbered Law, tobacco, tobacco products and devices imitating tobacco should not be used in public transportation vehicles, stations and their waiting areas.
  •      Officials and other passengers should be treated responsibly and respectfully, not talking loudly, and music players should not be heard loudly in a way that disturbs other passengers.
  •      Playing / performing live music within station areas and vehicles is subject to permission.
  •      Although there is no requirement for permission for amateur photography and video shooting; It is forbidden to make continuous shootings that contain a choreography or scenario for commercial purposes, educational studies and promotional activities, to photograph or videotape areas that are not allowed. In these cases, it is mandatory to follow the warnings and instructions of the officers.
  •      It is forbidden to enter the stations and vehicles with all kinds of flammable, combustible, explosive substances and loads that are fluid, smelly or may disperse. Administrative action will be taken against the passengers who cause negative situations that may arise in the entrances to be made in this way without permission.
  •      Any damage to the station and vehicles or the need for urgent cleaning should be reported to the driver or officer.
  •      It is forbidden to get on our vehicles with loads heavier than 30 kg or larger than 120x50x60 cm in dimensions. Even if they stay within these limits, our passengers who want to travel with more than 1 piece of luggage or cargo can travel outside of the hours between 07.00-09.00 and 17.00-20.00 by paying an extra travel fee.
  •     Unauthorised entries should not be made to the rail system stations, passenger entries must be made from designated control points. It is strictly forbidden to enter the areas marked with "no entry" sign. For your safety at platforms and stations, do not cross the yellow line and do not land on the rail track.
  •      Emergency situations that may be encountered at stations and inside the vehicles (suspicious package, emergency health problem, falling on the rail tracks, fire, harassment, attack, etc.) must be reported to the nearest officer via intercoms at the stations and inside the vehicles or reported in person.
  •      Emergency response equipment (fire extinguisher, train emergency stop lever/button, fire alarm button) should be used in case the attendant cannot be reached in emergency that may be encountered at stations and inside the vehicles. Administrative action will be taken in case of improper use of these equipments.
  •      Our passengers can travel with foldable single-seater bicycles during operating hours, and with standard non-folding single-seater bicycles outside peak hours (07.00-09.00 / 17.00-20.00) without paying extra fee. Moreover; Our passengers using bicycles can use the elevators within the capacity of the elevators, giving priority to “elderly, passengers with disabilities, pregnant and passengers accompanying their children”.

We do not allow tandem bicycles into our system due to the lack of suitable areas to be positioned in the vehicle and its negative impact on pedestrian circulation at the station.

  • It is forbidden to use skates, skateboards, hoverboards, bicycles, scooters, electric scooters, ginger-like vehicles inside the stations and vehicles. These vehicles should be carried by hand or moved beside the user without getting on them.
  • Subject to the following criteria, travel with pets is allowed in stations and vehicles outside the hours of 07:00-10:00 and 16:00-20:00.
  • Types of Dogs:
  • Guide dogs accompanying disabled individuals,
    • Upon request by the officials, individuals who wish to travel with a guide dog must present their Disability Card and the Guide Dog Card belonging to the dog.
    • Guide dogs can travel under the control of their owner with a leash that does not exceed 50 cm, like all dogs allowed to enter the system. If the dog owner presents their disability card, muzzle is not mandatory for these dogs.
    • Guide dogs can travel without any time restrictions.
  • Small dogs,
    • Small breed dogs, weighing no more than 5 kg and can be carried in one hand, can travel without time restrictions and without the requirement of a muzzle, as long as they are on a leash that does not exceed 50 cm and carried in the lap.
  • Medium and Big dogs,
    • Except for companion and small-sized dogs, dogs that are not defined as small breed can travel outside the hours of 07:00-10:00 and 16:00-20:00, as long as they are on a leash that does not exceed 50 cm in length and wearing a muzzle throughout the journey.
  • Medium and large dogs will be on the floor in the vehicle, alongside the owner, in a way that does not block the corridors, either in a crate or outside the crate. Small dogs must be carried in the owner's lap during the journey.
  • Placing the crate on the seats or seating the dogs on the seats is strictly prohibited.
  • Metro Istanbul has the right to restrict the entry of dogs into the system, even inside crates, in cases of excessive passenger density.
  • Only one dog is allowed to travel with a passenger; the entry of multiple dogs will not be permitted.
  • In case of non-compliance with the "Traveling with Dogs Rules" determined by the operation and announced through communication channels, necessary legal actions will be taken in accordance with Article 67-68 of the Turkish Civil Code and Article 177 of the Turkish Penal Code against the dog owners.
  • Furthermore, dog owners will be responsible for compensating for any damage to third parties, equipment, and premises, as well as cleaning up any pollution caused by the animals (feces, urine, etc.).
  • Other Animals:
    • All cat species will be allowed to travel only in specially designed carriers (cat carriers), baskets, or crates intended for transporting animals. Carrying cats in school bags, shopping bags, sports backpacks, material boxes, crates, handbags, and similar items is not permitted. Cats that do not meet the above conditions for transport, even if carried in a leash and in the lap, will not be allowed to travel.
    • Small pet bird species (e.g., nightingales, canaries) will be allowed to travel in cages.
    • Animals that are predatory, venomous, reptiles, arthropods, insects, primates, wild bird species, and farm animals are excluded. These animals are not allowed to enter stations and vehicles under any circumstances. Unauthorized entry of such animals may result in administrative action, and the responsible individuals who allowed the animal's entry will be held accountable for any resulting issues
  • Stay behind the yellow line on the platforms, for your safety.
  • Any kind of music broadcast or live music playing at stations and inside the trains is subject to permission.
  • Begging and hawking is prohibited at stations and inside the trains.
  • It is forbidden to promote products and hang promotional labels or banners at stations and inside the trains.
  • The security officers have the authority to prevent these people to get into stations and trains, to remove them from the system and to prevent them from leaving until the law enforcement officers arrive with the authority given by the law numbered 5188.
  • It is forbidden to consume all kinds of food and beverage inside the trains that may disturb other passengers (heated and emit odour), cause pollution in case of spills or falls (beverages other than water, ice cream, etc.).
  • Passengers traveling with backpacks are required to carry their backpacks in their hands and at foot level in order not to disturb other passengers.
  • Do not prevent other passengers from sitting and having a comfortable journey by occupying more space than the seat reserved for you in the seating areas.
  • It is forbidden to stand or step on the seats.
  • It is forbidden to sit on the areas at the head of our trains and to prevent access to these areas by placing loads.
  • It is forbidden to prevent the driver’s cabin doors from being opened by placing suitcases, loads, etc. in front of them, or leaning on them.
  • Passengers traveling with strollers, wheelchairs and bicycles are prohibited from using escalators for their own and other passengers' safety. These passengers should use the elevators instead of the escalators, and they should get information from the staff in case there is no elevator is at the station or the elevator is out of service.
  • It is forbidden to force the trains doors, elevator doors and Platform Screen Doors at the stations.
  • It is forbidden to climb over the barriers at the stations, lean on them and hang over the rail track over these areas, for your safety.
  • Hold the handles while traveling inside the train.
  • Please do not prevent other passengers from sitting by placing loads such as suitcases, luggage, bags, etc. on and between the seats.
  • Please leave the spaces reserved for the priority passenger group (pregnant, disabled, elderly, infants, people with disabilities and veterans) empty or give space if needed.
  • Give priority to passengers with strollers, wheelchairs, pregnant, elderly and people with disability when using the elevators.
  • Take care of your personal belongings and bags during your trip. In case of loss, please contact our call centre number 153. Do not forget that the suspicious package procedure will be carried out by informing the law enforcement officers for the unclaimed packages and bags found at the stations and inside the trains.
  • It is forbidden to enter energized areas for your safety. Entering energized areas is life threatening!
  • Do not open the windows of air-conditioned trains.
  • Hold hands of small children on escalators and travellators. For your children's safety, do not let them wander around the stations on their own.
  • Help the elderly by taking the arm of the elderly people on the escalators and travellators.
  • Travel by holding the handrail on escalators and travellators.
  • Small dogs must be carried on the lap on escalators and travellators.
  • For your personal safety, pay attention to your belongings such as long dresses, scarves, pointed heels, slippers, umbrellas, etc., on escalators and travellators.
  • Leave the left side empty, on escalators and travellators.
  • It is forbidden to sit in places other than escalators, belts, elevators and designated seats inside the train.
  • It is forbidden to sit on the edges of escalators and travellators.
  • Running on escalators, travellators and fixed stairs is prohibited.
  • It is forbidden to travel in the opposite direction of movement of the escalator and travellators.
  • Mind the gap between the platform and the train when getting on and off the trains.
  • Please stand clear of the closing doors.
  • Do not try to get on or off the elevator while the doors are closing.
  • Be careful with your clothes, bags, etc., and your hands while opening and closing the doors inside the train.
  • Please mind your hands and belongings such as clothes, bags are not caught when the Platform Screen Doors and Elevator Doors at the stations are closing.
  • It is forbidden to cross, climb on and travel over the coupling located between the trains.
  • It is forbidden to enter the station and trains with any kind of wheelbarrow used for the purpose of carrying cargo.
  • It is forbidden to lean on the train doors, the Platform Screen Doors at the platforms and the elevator doors, for your safety.
  • No more than the specified number of people can board the cable car cabin.
  • No more than the specified number of people can get into the elevator cabin.
  • If you have to use the stroller on the escalator, please keep it straight in the direction of travel.
  • It is forbidden to throw any substance out of train windows.
  • It is forbidden to take your body parts such as hands and arms out of the train windows.
  • Do not get down to the rail tracks, for your safety. Entering the tracks is life threatening!
  • It is forbidden to throw butts on trashcans, flowerpots and floors.
  • It is forbidden to climb and get above the top covers at the station entrances and platforms.
  • It is forbidden to enter the driver's cabin, except for authorised personnel.
  • Please do not wait in front of the doors, proceed towards the middle of the train. Waiting at the door area inside the train and on the platform affects the boarding circulation, and negatively affects the timely departure of the services.
