Mayor Imamoglu announced M12 Goztepe-Umraniye Metro Line to Istanbulites…

Reminding that they have restarted the construction works of M12 Goztepe-Umraniye Metro Line, a project that was halted in 2017, Mayor Imamoglu said, “Hopefully, we will present M12 Goztepe-Umraniye Metro Line that will serve on such a busy line starting from Goztepe Park and end at Umraniye. We look forward in presenting this valuable metro line to the people of Istanbul by 2022.

Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem Imamoglu examined the studies in the city on-site during the days when curfews were imposed as part of the fight against coronavirus. In this context, Mayor Imamoglu visited Atasehir construction site of M12 Goztepe-Umraniye Metro Line. Mayor of Atasehir Battal Ilgezdi accompanied Mayor Imamoglu, who went down 25 meters below the surface with Pelin Alpkokin, Head of IMM Rail Systems Department and Ozgur Soy, General Manager of Metro Istanbul. Imamoglu and his accompanying delegation took a business vehicle and made a 500-meter trip along the metro line tunnel after examination.

“We will be presenting to the people of Istanbul by 2022”
Mayor Imamoglu watched the operation of the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) on the spot and shared the following information about the line:
“This was a project that was halted in 2017, a line that starts from Atasehir, eases the congestion of Goztepe and reaches to Umraniye. The line is expected to have 400,000 passengers per day. Therefore, this line had to run. Our friends made loan applications regarding this construction site. This is the situation from 2017 to 2019. We mobilised the site at that time by providing a financing of 175 million Euros. Intensive work carried out since September 2019. Two TBM are running. The performance of the TBM here reached a distance of 1 kilometre. Two more TBM will be used in May and June. We will act fast. We will commission a metro line with 11 stops, reaching up to 16 kilometres. Our intention is to put this line into operation in mid-2022. Ms. Pelin Alpkokin just said that she is gratifying; I think the TBM will finish their operation by the end of 2021. Other construction works will continue, of course. I hope that in 2022, we will present our valuable metro which serves on this busy line starting from Goztepe Park and end at Umraniye to the people of Istanbul”.

It will carry 44,000 passengers per hour in one direction …
M12 Goztepe-Umraniye Metro Line is fully Automated Driverless line that is 13 kilometres long and consists of 11 stations. M12 line will have the capacity to carry 44,000 passengers per hour in one direction and it will be integrated with M5 Uskudar-Cekmekoy metro line at Carsi Station, M4 Kadikoy-Tavsantepe metro line at Yeni Sahra Station and Marmaray at Goztepe Station.
