Dudullu – Bostanci Metro Line Resume…

It was planned to complete Dudullu – Bostanci Metro Line by 2019 but construction works were halted in October 2018. Construction works of this project are reinitiated. Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem Imamoglu inspected the construction site and said that they are working on financing the relevant project.
Construction of M8 Dudullu – Bostanci Metro Line started in February 2016 but it was halted in October 2018. Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem Imamoglu inspected the construction site of the mentioned project with Metro Istanbul executives. Metro Istanbul executives made a presentation before the inspection that took place 20 meters under the ground.

“There has been problems in the project for the past 2, 5 years”
Mayor Imamoglu went down to the construction site after the presentation and emphasised that Dudullu-Bostanci Metro Line is one of the most effective lines in the North-South axis. Mayor Imamoglu reminded that the relevant line supposed to be completed by 2019 and said, “There has been problems in this project for the past 2, 5 years. Financial means were arranged at the beginning of the project but did not continue afterwards and this caused the project to come to a stopping point since October 2018. This was a line without an investment plan. Central government approved the investment plan in the past previous months and now we are looking ahead. We are also doing our works for financial means”.

“We prioritise the works that are urgent for Istanbul”
Mayor Imamoglu emphasised that this line is going to be beneficial for Istanbul and said that this is why they care about this project. Mayor Imamoglu emphasised that there were 8 lines that were halted when they took the Office and added that they want to complete these lines and said, “We prioritise the works that are urgent for Istanbul. We have to prioritise. Projects of this kind define the future of life. When you create productive projects and present it to the people of Istanbul, they relieve and be happy because they will not spend most of their lives in traffic. It is pointless to come up with an issue that is not that important. In contrary, you would create an environment that will cause more stress and hardship for the people. When we are prioritising metro projects, Canal Istanbul occupies the agenda that I believe is a murder project rather than a treachery. I am not the one who used the word “treachery” when it is associated with Istanbul and we are just trying to prevent this treachery. Project Canal Istanbul is clearly a murder project rather than a project of treachery”.

“Investment plan is recently approved”
Mayor Imamoglu took a family Picture with the workers after his speech and answered the questions of the reporters. A reporter asked a question regarding the financing and asked, “What is the sort of finance you need to complete a project that is %70 finished. Mayor Imamoglu replied that “Cost of this project is 558 Million € plus VAT. My colleagues are putting efforts to minimise the cost but it is around % 3. We need around 200 Million € plus VAT to complete the project and we are talking about a project that is halted since October 2018. Permission for the investment plan is recently approved and we are expecting it to be approved and announced during the first weeks of 2020 and then we are going to continue financing works. There was an agreement with the Bank of Provinces but the process is interrupted and now it is our burden. We are going to work hard to present this precious line that connects 4 transportation axis as soon as we can”.

Journey between Dudullu and Bostanci goes down to 21 minutes
Dudullu – Bostanci line is 14, 3 km long, has 13 stations, and connects the most populated districts of the Anatolian side to each other. These districts are Maltepe, Kadikoy, Atasehir and Umraniye districts. The line is installed with the latest technology electro-mechanical systems and operate on “Fully Automated Metro” basis with a capacity of 90 seconds headway. This project lowers the journey in between Dudullu and Bostanci down to 21 minutes and is going to be able to carry 44, 400 passengers in one direction. “Screen doors” are installed to preserve the security within the stations so passenger would not fall to the tracks. Car parks with 3,090 vehicles in total are constructed within the context of the investment with a capacity of 890 vehicles in Bostanci and 2,200 vehicles in Kozyatagi. Project is initiated in February 2016 but the works on the project are slowed down significantly for the past 2, 5 years and continued until April 2019 like this. There were tunnels almost 2 km long and without the permanent coating within the project that were waiting for 1, 5 to 2, 5 years. We made evaluation with the contractor company and started constructing permanent coating within these tunnels that possess risk since December. We are expecting this work to be completed by end of this June (6 Months). Integration points of Dudullu – Bostanci Metro Line are Bostanci Station via maritime transport and Marmaray, Kozyatagi Station via Kadikoy – Tavsantepe Metro Line, Dudullu Station via Uskudar – Umraniye – Cekmekoy Metro Line.
