Domestic Signalisation System Works Begin in M1 Line!
Self-Driving Full-Automatic Train Control Signalisation System is going to be designed and manufactured by Metro Istanbul with domestic and national means within the scope of “Domestic and National Manufacturing”. This system will be used in M1A Yenikapi-Ataturk Airport Line, M1B Yenikapı-Kirazli Line and M1B’s second stage Halkali Extension.
Metro Istanbul & ISBAK Joint venture got the procurement of “M1 Yenikapi-Otogar-Ataturk Airport-Kirazli-Halkali Underground System, Signalisation and Platform Separating Door Systems Provision and Start-Up Works” which was carried out by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Department of Rail Systems and Directorate of European Side Rail Systems. Metro Istanbul will carry out design, installation, testing and operation of the relevant Line and ISBAK will carry out domestic provision of Platform Separating Door Systems. Within the scope of this project, we are going to collaborate with the leading institutions and organisations of our domestic industry.
A procurement was made on 12th June for 32+2 (2 of them can be added later on) stations along with 2 storehouses and vehicle maintenance area that are located on the 36 km length double line in order to comply with the international standards. The procurement includes installation of Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) Signalisation System and Platform Separating Door Works of the relevant stations, storehouses and maintenance areas. Within the context of the relevant procurement, following will be carried out in Halkali Extension of the relevant line:
Installation of domestic signalisation system and renovation of the existing signalisation system infrastructure with domestic signalisation system on a level so it can meet modern requirements. Domestic provision of Platform Separating Doors, Electromechanical installation, testing and start-up works. Service delivery for 24 months following the delivery of the relevant services within the scope of warranty. Providing theoretical and practical training and provision of spare parts and consumable materials.
Adapting the signalisation system to GoA4 level provides more frequent and fast services, increased service frequency, speed and extension of platforms will provide %100 capacity increase that will provide the community more comfortable and fast service. As a part of domestic and national manufacturing initiative, domestically manufactured Platform Separating Door Systems of 125-meter length will be installed to 34 stations to enhance security in platform areas.
As Metro Istanbul, we would like to thank all of our colleagues who took part in the procurement process and we would like to wish success to the departments that are going to take part in the project.
We are carrying Istanbul to the future.
What Is *GoA4?
There are four specific levels of GoA (Grade of Automation) in Signalisation Systems for rail system operations within the scope of IEC 622990 Standard. In GoA1 level, all ride control is under machinist’s supervision whilst GoA2 level machinists are only responsible for driving the train in cases of malfunction and supervising passengers getting in and out of the vehicle. On the other hand GoA3 level systems are called Unattended Systems where the attendant’s (if there is one) only responsibility is to open and shut the doors and intervene in the cases of a malfunction. GoA4 level systems do not have an operator inside the vehicle and the system is called UTO (Unattended Train Operation) which means driverless train operation.
A GoA4 signal system does not need a machinist and all functions such as opening and shutting of the doors, departure, driving and stop functions are carried out by signalisation system software. Test results shown that GoA4 level provided a 90 seconds range safe train operation in the past but today’s technology brought it down to 75 seconds range. In addition to this, all the tests ran indicate that it is not possible to achieve such a fast and safe operation with a machinist. Passenger safety is assured with Platform Separating Door Systems (PAKS) in UTO (Unattended Train Operation) system where accidents arising from human factors are minimised and system’s optimisation in automatic departure and stop provides energy efficient and comfortable ride.
