M9 Atakoy - Ikitelli Metro Line will be commissioned in 2021…

Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), Ekrem Imamoglu participated in the rail welding ceremony of M9 Atakoy-Ikitelli Metro Line that will be integrated with four different metro lines and Marmaray that operate within the city. Speaking inside the tunnel after the event held at Ikitelli Sanayi Metro Station, Mayor Imamoglu stated that the line would start serving with partial sections in 2021.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu attended the rail welding ceremony of M9 Atakoy-Ikitelli Metro Line, which will be integrated with four different metro lines and Marmaray that operate within the city. Murat Ongun, who is an Advisor and Spokesperson of Mayor Imamoglu, attended the ceremony held at Ikitelli Sanayi Metro Station of Basaksehir-Olimpiyat-Kirazli Metro Line along with Metro Istanbul General Manager Ozgur Soy and Head of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Rail Systems Department Pelin Alpkokin accompanied Mayor Imamoglu at the ceremony. Pelin Alpkokin informed and contractor company representatives gave information to Mayor Imamoglu in the tunnel about the works regarding the project. Mayor Imamoglu, who performed rail welding by wearing special gloves and glasses, made his assessments about the line in the tunnel. Mayor Imamoglu said:

“We like this depth because now it means that the job is done and we be happy. It means that we are halfway through the road, even we are about to finish it. Our M9 Atakoy-Ikitelli Metro Line, which we are carrying out rail welding ceremony today, is a valuable line for us. Especially with Ikitelli stop that is connecting now with two lines and with the three stations here, I hope we will commission it next year. We care about this project because of this aspect and we are working hard. This line will carry 36 thousand passengers in one direction, there are many workers in this busy area, and therefore, this line will be an effective line. We have been through some difficulties regarding the ground but here both my colleagues and our contractor company have conducted a very rigorous process and we overcome the problems related to that ground. Tunnel boring machine (TBM) fulfils its last duties in this line, it will be complete by June and then we will focus on electromechanical works. In all these aspects, we activate the process with both financing conditions, where we act very effectively and we proceeded with the meticulous effort of our contractor company and with the belief of my companions. Partial commissioning will also provide a different motivation here. I hope that by putting this whole line into operation, we will present an important line to the people of Istanbul a line that also connects to Marmaray in the first quarter of 2022. ”

The Line Will Have 11 Stations and Will Go Through 5 Districts…
When Atakoy-Basin Ekspres-Ikitelli Metro Line is completed, it will be integrated to Olimpiyat-Ikitelli Sanayi section of Basaksehir-Olimpiyat-Kirazli Metro Line at Ikitelli Sanayi Station, Kabatas-Mahmutbey-Esenyurt Metro Line at Mehmet Akif Station, Yenikapi-Kirazli-Halkali Metro Line at Mimar Sinan Station and Marmaray at Atakoy Station. The line will be 13.5 kilometres long and will have 11 stations within the borders of Bakirkoy, Bahcelievler, Bagcilar, Kucukcekmece and Basaksehir districts. The journey time of the line, which will carry 36 thousand passengers in one direction per hour, will be 23 minutes from the first station to the last station.
